I kept it on because i thought it was a cute detail and my pins are so blunt i have to force them into fabric THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!! On my way to stab some pins 😂
I don't think that's true about the tin foil though? That's not how sharpening works, it might clean the blade, but it's not being actually sharpened. I believe there are services for that if you don't want to buy a whole new scissors.
oh neat, i always just used it to keep my needles separate from the pins (also since its smaller i wouldn't risk them getting pushed in too far and getting lost lol)
If you read the biography of Abagail Adams, you’ll recall how valuable pins and needles were back in early America. Though they’re quite inexpensive today, they were once in short supply – which is why we might not think of sharpening them. If you invest in good quality European-made needles, however, this is important information. Thanks!!!
Huh! Never knew that's what they were for! Every single one I've encountered in my life has had it cut off… but I've seen them attached at some point…awesome fun fact!
Cutting foil didn’t work on my scissors—but the foil was aluminum, not tin.
I wouldn’t expect aluminum foil to do much if the scissors were dull. Scissors are made of steel, which is much harder than aluminum.
If the scissors were recently sharpened, then cutting foil might be enough to re-hone the wire edges. It wouldn’t be enough to actually re-sharpen, though.
Odd, I never thought of it as a strawberry and simply figured it was a pepper instead. They're both nightshade and growing companions Strawberry and tomato make much less sense. There's got to be an excellent explanation.
THIS was the pin cushion my aunt told me about! So it's called emery sand, tysm, now I know. If I'm gonna make my own strawberry cushion, which grit should I use?
You can also sharpen scissors by 'cutting' the neck of a plain glass bottle. Glass is slightly abrasive at this scale and it will put an edge on your scissor blades in an emergency.
My grandmother made her own pincushions out of a canning jar lid and ring with a fabric cushion filled with sand. It does keep pins and needles sharp. I have looked for a pattern or tutorial for making this type since mine is more than 60 years old and the fabric is starting to disintegrate from all the pin holes. I don’t want to pull it apart to figure out how to make a new one, but I think that’s my only option 😢

I had one of these for YEARS…… never new…. never new…
I always wondered what the strawberry was for!!😂 Thanks!
Holy hell that bowl is like four meals worth!
Why not just put that powder inside the pin cushion itself so that the pins are sharpened every time you put them in it
I always thought it was a chili
I always thought it was a little pepper haha
I NEVER knew this. Holey crap. I guess 35 is a good time to learn 😂
holy moly that is so cool, I never knew
Super useful info, thank you!
I knew about the strawberry, but I did not know about cutting tin foil!
Do not leave your needle in the strawberry! The emery attracts moisture and will rust your needle.

I found that out as a kid and I spent time sharing everything for no reason
I never knew that! Thanks!
Emery like emery board? Like the nail files?? Brilliant
I just used it for my favourite needles
For my cat to use to yank my pin cushion off my work table. 🤣
I haven't seen one with real Emory in it for decades. I find them full of saw dust. 😕

Wow.
I’ve almost always known this but I clicked on this any ways and learned you can sharpen scissors on tinfoil. 😆 lol
So THATS why my grandma was never upset when she saw me playing with her pincushion lol
WHAT?!?!?! 😮

Glad to see young people sharing traditional skills. I worked with several young people who could not put a button on or sew a hem. Yikes😮
Tried to sharpen my scissors with the small strawberry. Not as useful.

I thought it was a pepper xD
I didn't understand why this works
I’ve never known what this is for! I’m going to use this for my safety pins!

i always thought it was a little hot pepper lol
Is it meant to be a strawberry?/ Gen question
I always interpreted it as a pepper lol!
Never knew that for scissors!!
Why did mine get dull when I did it 😢
I thought it was a chili pepper…
You’re adorbs and that was so helpful 🥰💕

i thought it was a weight or something!
It doesn't really work that good tho

THAT'S WHAT THAT'S FOR??? OMG I USED TO POKE PINS IN THAT PART CAUSE I LIKED THE SOUND
i had no idea! I’m new at sewing and have thrown so many needles away! (safely)
this video found me at just the right time, my whole sewing kit is dull lol
