ハロウィンはダンディーズワールドのゴーディーでした!🎃
As soon as I saw this little pumpkin dude in the update, I just knew I had to cosplay him. He’s so cute. A So, this is Gordy. He’s a little guy from the Dandies World Halloween update. I’m maternal towards him. We must protect him at all costs. He’s just a little guy, you know. So, anyway, as you guys know, the Halloween update came out on the 10th of October. I saw this little guy and instantly decided I needed to cosplay him for the October Comic-Con on the 24th since I feel like it’ll be perfect timing just before Halloween. So, that gave me 14 days to make a whole cosplay from scratch. Let’s give this a go. So, to start off with, I decided to go thrift shopping for some basic green items and some orange items. Just something I could use as a base for the entire costume. Honestly, it was pretty hard to find anything. Even though it was Halloween time, there was not much. There was this little pumpkin hat that was cute, but it wasn’t really what I was going for. But I eventually managed to find these green base shirt and flared leggings that matched in a similar color, and I grabbed those. I also found this pumpkin outfit from the kids section of the thrift shop for £3. And it was the perfect base to make his big puffy gloves, but of course, I had to try it on first, you know, for science, you know, just So anyway, I cut the costume in half. This is so there was enough material for each glove. I then turn those pieces inside out and sew them into a tube shape on my sewing machine. And these are going to become the base of the arm warmers. Honestly, this was kind of thick and hard to sew through the sewing machine. So, if you have an older machine, I would recommend just hand sewing this part. It will be a lot easier. I then made these little green cones from the leftover fabric from the waist tie of these leggings, which worked out kind of perfect. So, all the colors of green matched. So, I made three cones to represent his fingers and a bigger one for the thumb, which I then filled with stuffing and hand sewed them to the glove. This was the nice relaxing part of the conrunch where I got to put on a movie whilst I was hand sewing. I also left a gap so I could put my fingers through the cones so I can wiggle them, you know. Not going to lie, I think the gloves are my favorite part of the cosplay. I then added these little clips and sewed them on the inside. I recycled them from previous Comic- Con lanyards. And this just meant that if I wasn’t wearing them at the corner and I was shopping, I can clip them to the side of my cosplay and they won’t get in the way. This was such a smart little idea. I would definitely recommend this if you’re doing big paws and stuff like that for your costumes cuz if you’re not wearing them, then you’re carrying them and that’s just as bad as wearing them, you know. But anyway, at this point, we were cutting it close to ComicCon and I had ordered some dungarees for Gordy last week and turns out the seller vintage never shipped them out. So I was panicking a little bit. just a little bit of a panic um because I couldn’t find dungarees anywhere. Apparently, they’re not in fashion anymore. But I had such a vision. I wanted little dungaree shorts in orange with all these green, you know, you know, that was the vision. So, I took a gamble and ordered two pairs of dungarees. They were £3 each and I ordered through two different shipping services on vintage and I was just hoping and praying that one of them would arrive before Comic- Con Friday. You know, the estimated delivery time said Thursday to Friday, and I was cosplaying it that Friday. So, Thursday rolled around, and the cosplay crunching gods were shining down on my doorstep with both packages. I had both of them, two dungarees. Crazy. One of the pairs was already cut into the dungaree short style I wanted, so that would have saved me sewing. But, it was more of a peachy brown color rather than orange. So, I tried to tint it more orange with some yellow fabric dye I already had around the house, but it didn’t really work at all. It I don’t know what happened. It just didn’t work. None of the dye took onto the fabric, which is weird because denim is usually quite easy to dye. So, it’s a good thing I ordered two pairs. So, I proceeded to cut down the longer pair of dungarees into short ones and then hand sewed it in place so the cuffs wouldn’t roll down during the con and get really annoying. Sometimes when you’re ordering off vintage, you can’t guess the colors of things. You win some, you lose some. I then made a tail using wire, some green fabric scraps, and a little foam leaf I made covered in green fabric as well, which I then sewed to the back of the dungarees. This worked super well, and I could even shape the wire into a signature curl, just like in the game. For my initial plan to make this gordy costume, I really wanted to make a big removable pumpkin head to add to that kind of Halloweeny vibe that people do where they wear a pumpkin. and also inspired by a lot of your guys’ Dandy’s World cosplays. You know the ones where people make big like cardboard head things. I thought that were really cool and I kind of wanted to make one for Gordi. So I saw a tutorial online where you fill a plastic bag with stuffing or paper and you tie string around it and paperiermâché. I kind of wanted it to function as a purse and a cartoon pumpkin head for the day of corn. Like a little multi-function thing. And when I tell you I did hours, and I mean hours, of papermâé until it got to a sturdy texture, you have no idea. I removed all of the stuffing and then realized I didn’t have enough time to make the whole thing the day before con. So, unfortunately, I had to scrap that initial plan. And I went back to the drawing board and got out my tin foil hat. Quite literally, I got a tin foil hat and used that as a base with some foam clay to make a little pumpkin cap. You know, like if you’re carving a pumpkin, that would be the top of the lid. You know, I’m kind of going for that vibe. And once I left the foam clay to dry, I used some scrap foam to make some stalk details. I drew a pattern on some paper and then traced it onto the scrap foam. This was a great project for recycling scrap materials. I’ve just had all this laying around the house. I then heat sealed the foam and added a layer of Mod Podge. And once that was dry, I painted it with acrylic. The layer of Mod Podge is actually a super important step for making foam pieces for your cosplay. It adds a semi-waterproof barrier to the foam. It also limits the amount of acrylic paint color that’s absorbed into the foam as you’re doing layer by layer. And without the Mod Podge layer, it takes ages to get a fully opaque finish. I then added wood filler into the pumpkin hat and smoothed it out and added the orange color. Glued in some wire for the leaf and stem and attached it into the hat. In between waiting for all of these layers of the hat to dry, I went ahead and borrowed Nip’s Nick Wild wig from Zootopia. And I restyled it slightly for Gordy. Added a few more flicks. And honestly, this saved me a huge chunk of money and time for the budget of this cosplay. So, thank you so much for letting me borrow it. I wanted to add some small details to the cosplay to really transform it from a pumpkin costume to specifically Gordy from Dandy’s World, if you get me. And one of those things I knew was super important to add was his trinket since it’s designed to be like a wearable locket for the character and it’s a huge part of Gord’s lore in Dandy’s world. He’s got a pretty sad backstory. Let’s not go into it right now. Since I’m not very confident in 3D modeling quite yet, I couldn’t make his exact trinket design. So, I found this free pre-existing locket keychain design. I downloaded it, scaled it up, and 3D printed it. I kind of wanted to make the trinket a bit more oversized and cartoony. And this will also kind of make me look smaller in comparison in like photos and videos because he’s just a little guy. So, I printed the locket out and then hand painted the base color orange. And once that was dry, I sketched out the design for the locket by hand. I used a picture of the trinket in game and his plushy for reference. And I think it turned out super cute. A little bit creepy, but cute nonetheless. I repurposed another clip from an old Comic-Con lanyard and attached it to the top of the locket so I could clip it onto my cosplay. Another final detail I wanted to add onto the cosplay was some kitty looking handsewn on patches. I used some print off ironon transfer paper and printed out the letters for Gord’s name and various candies from the game. I then picked my favorite ones, transferred them onto fabric and hand sewed them on. And with that, the full Gordy cosplay was complete. I honestly had so much fun wearing him to Comic-Con. I want to wear him again like super soon, even if the Halloween event has ended by then. Maybe I could use it in a mains group, a holiday mains group maybe. I don’t know. Be sure to subscribe and turn on the notification bell for this channel. So you can check out the full Comic Con vlog when it’s out super soon, or if it’s not already out, depending on when you’re watching the video. What Dandy’s World character should I cosplay next? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll see you guys next time. Bye. [Music]
