I’m constantly asked what templates I use for my projects, but I actually freehand a lot of it. So, in under one minute, I’ll share my design process. To make a base helmet, I create strips of cardboard to make the circumference of my head and to make a semi-dome shape. The face portion is made up of these cardboard shapes, and I carefully join them together with hot glue and additional cardboard supports. The mouthpiece rests under Mike’s chin and stays in place with elastics acting like tendons. The forehead chainsaw is a rounded rectangular shape, and both the chainsaw and mouth teeth are made from craft foams. At this point, I’m free to freestyle shapes with craft foam and cardboard that I think just look cool. I also use a PVC pipe to act as a counterwe because the chainsaw did make the helmet front heavy. I’m not worried about perfection. After all, this cardboard was already going to be thrown out anyway. I’m just giving it a second life. Like Dungeie, I’ll give you my heart and in exchange, show me your dreams.
