  1. I'm a white person and i'm with you, addy. i can adore characters of a different culture and choose not to cosplay those that would feel like I am taking away the representation from another community. I also don't care about ppl with darker skintones choosing to cosplay characters that are "white presenting" [no they aren't always white and I know that]. Whenever I see a cosplay I like, I like the cosplay and skintone doesn't matter to me so long as it isn't someone who is changing their skintone to fit the character.

  2. I think everyone can cosplay whoever they want, but the only time you should be changing your skin color for a cosplay is if the skin color in question is, like, blue

  3. The blackface cosplayer saying she didn’t mean to cause offense despite very clearly going out of her way to piss people off lol

  4. Gen Z nowadays is so scared of being seen as too woke or sensitive, they go all the way back around to being ignorant and completely dismissive of issues

  5. More on the fanart side, people act like its poison to just color pick the cookies skin color, you can literally use it as the base and render from there, its so hard to color pick totallyyy 😭

  6. Maybe its my autism, maybe its ignorance, maybe Ive just grown numb as a black women in this world we live in….
But I cant see the issue with her matching GC cookie, as long as it isnt used for satire or slander Id say let it be. Personally, I wouldnt want to make myself that tan for Pure Vanilla cookie just to cosplay him. (I used to cosplay MHA characters, Tsuyu was my fav and I just rocked my natural skin tone) But if I saw a fellow darker skinned person do that I wouldnt care either?

I dont know, I just feel like everyone should have the freedom of expression. Yes understand the hardship of others, but I thought it could be a way to lift up people in general by have positive interactions with these type of cosplayers?

If anything, a lot of people dont like this online right now. Okay, cosplay like that in the privacy of your own home and dont post it.

I wish I could understand how hurtful character appreciation to this degree can be. I dont wanna hurt/annoy people either, if someone could re explain this video another way for me to understand that would be cool…😢

  7. One of the coolest cosplays I've seen was a Captain America cosplayed by a woman with a hijab. It looked so neat and I loved that she took a classic character and incorporated her culture into it. Plus, I think that it really incorporates the actual spirit of America, which is ALMOST ENTIRELY (currently) DESCENDANTS OF IMMIGRANTS! With the exception of Native Americans, we are all immigrants, even if your family can trace back to the 1600's. America is not just white Christians, unlike what some think.

Edit: I love your rant at the end. I love playing Devil's Advocate for things in order to understand why someone has an opinion, but there's a difference between that and rage baiting. I don't say stupid shit to get people riled up, I try and have a nuanced conversation where logical arguments are presented in order to flesh out understanding of a topic or opinion. I also never invalidate other people's opinions, I just say "well, what about this, what do you think of this side of the argument?" I will tell someone if they're being offensive, but I mostly want to debate, not be obstinate. Also, listening is very important to an actual debate, rather than just baiting someone to get frustrated.

  8. Curiosity does'nt excuse being wierd to trans/genderqueer people! You DO NOT have to ask us wierd questions about or gen!tals. People keep on saying "theyre just curious!" But really…it's just disguisting.

  10. 5:57 Im asking genuinely, why can’t I (as a white girl) have my hair braided? I know that there are certain braiders that are trained on how to treat white scalps, and they are much more gentle. Ive been wanting to get braids for a while now, and I hope people don’t think I’m being rude or racist. I just genuinely think that braids are gorgeous! Please answer if you can. ❤

  11. I'm a very pasty white (lightest shade of a foundation line) slavic person and I'm a homestuck cosplayer and I couldn't find any gray facepaint (or sharpies), so I mix black and white facepaint. It's always trial and error, so when I feel that it's too dark, I add more white. I've seen people mix their own grays and make it borderline black ToT, it's easier to add more white and then just tidbits of black instead of the opposite.

  12. I think a big disconnect comes from seeing it from an American perspective vs how the rest of the world sees it.

In America blackface has a long history and is pretty much ALWAYS seen as racist even when the costume/makeup isn’t necessarily trying to replicate a skin colour (for example years ago there was controversy when a makeup brand used dark grey face makeup on a white model). Whereas in the rest of the world there isn’t that immediate racist connotations, so it’s not seen as problematic.

For example, look at Zwarte Piet from the Netherlands. It’s basically blackface but its history is not racist nor isn’t meant to be offensive (of course there are exceptions).

Similarly there are various examples of “imitate the artist” type contests around the world (Japan, Latin America, etc.) Where the network/show itself applies black makeup and uses wigs to “turn” contestants into the black/POC artists they are supposed to imitate. Again, since the history of racist black face is not prevalent, it is not seen as problematic.

  13. Can someone explain the appeal of crk to me, Ive seen it before, and it looks like one of those games that spams new characters instead of expanding on old ones (also gacha system, ew)

  14. Russia is diverse. It is not a cultural monolith. The Soviets, and its currect dictatorship Z government, have tried to portray it as one united culture, but by virtue of its massive geography, historic and modern Russia contain a huge variety of peoples and cultures. Many of them are minorities who are suppressed by the government, again both historically, and today. See the Komi Republic as an example.

  15. I don’t know what side most people are on, but I see a few “anti-blackface” or whatever tf it’s called. Might be a hot take, but I honestly don’t find it bad. If you wanna look more accurate to the character, then fine! I don’t care, have fun, don’t let social media stop you!

  16. I’m banging my head on a wall bro whitewashing and black washing I’ve heard in Pinterest comments of art and it’s driving me mad- Like there was no such thing till people made it a thing and it got worse!

  17. I love CRK, and as a certified CRK lore master, I'm going to confirm that dough colour DOES MATTER because it is skin tone in this universe, but I give a different opinion on this outlook because if you have white as cracker skin and your trying to cosplay as golden cheese, there might be a problem there.
I recommend for any cosplayers to aim for characters nearer to their skin tones as much as possible, you can squeak by with a bit of makeup BUT try to be as respectful as possible.

  18. Of fucking course they are russian. I swear to god, it's like this country exists in a bubble and never learns anything. I'm ashamed of it's existence almost every day.

  19. I can't believe you have the audacity to have such cool hair that it makes me crazy jealous lol. I have never wanted racoon tails more in my whole life, but I have super short, coarse curly hair and I dont think it would ever work 🙁 So cmon man…Ive been binging your videos bc I love your content and the way you present it yet you do THIS and look too cool? Smh, how rude

  20. As an artist, this video so far is making me feel racist..

    For context:
    1: I am 13 mins in
2: I feel if you are to imitate an art piece, one should get it as close as possible. If a person of color cosplays as a white character fine. If they whiteface? To match the character, fine. Same way the other way. Though from what it sounds like, the person was a bit toxic and the way they put it does seem wrong so far.

I do not cosplay although I've thought of it. I am not in the cosplay fandom. I am not a professional artist, nor do I have a degree in art (though I'm at this point aiming for one). I shall continue watching this to the end to learn more.

  21. Wouldn't the world be a better place if we just realized the intent was "I wanna look like the character" and not "Americans did this as a caricature over a century ago so I must show I hate people this way too"?

  22. Sometimes Americans need to just shut their f up for thinking their perspective, opinion , ideal or standards should be revolved around them and any Non-Americans would be bashed as stupid for not doing so

  23. I had an unreal experience yesterday watching one corner of my fandom nearly tear itself apart due to season 2’s air date being announced, while I also had to go sit down and think after watching some particularly poorly informed people yell at pro-bodybuilders coated in that super metallic/dark bronzer to show their muscle detail that they were doing blackface.

  24. Idk who needs to hear this but you can cosplay a dark-skinned character as a lighter skinned person WITHOUT changing your skin color. People will know what character you're cosplaying by outfit/design alone, I PROMISE! 😭

  25. Man black people cannot have shyt lmaoo. We want braids? White people want them. We wanna say the n word? White people wanna say it too. We get a single good black character? White people wanna be them too 😭
