Another thing I love to do as a beginner cosplayer is that I thrift a lot and with my sewing skills and creativity I can make amazing amateur cosplays basically from scratch. A cosplay doesn't need to be expensive to look good and the fun you had while prepping it is priceless ♥️
I'm a circus clown, and we actually use glue sticks for some of our clowns with thicker eyebrows, myself included! (our clown white can sometimes be a little thin on darker eyebrows)
For the glue stick for anyone that wants to give it a try it has to be Elmer’s and it HAS to be the disappearing purple. I’ve been a drag queen for 5 years now and I’ve tried other brands in a pinch but I promise you they will all fail spectacularly… that being said in a pinch you can also use lash glue, you just have to be VERY slow so it’s not bumpy and it’s also super messy to remove. If you’re scared that a glue stick (or lash glue) will rip out your brows when you wash it out I promise you it will not
I remember making my first duct tape dummy at a con at 3AM because my friend needed one for her fursuit maker. She brought surgical scissors…which i had never used before…and i didnt know they were much more intense than regular scissors. Didnt matter how careful i was, girly was cut to shreds after i was done and i went down to the hotel front desk crying for bandaids. I still feel so bad. I dont know how she didn't even flinch or tell me something was wrong.

Serious question…I have always wanted to go to cons and display but I just like to dress up and be in costumes. The anime I like is as old as time and I’m not really into anything new.
Back when I was younger I avoided cons because it was well known that people like me would be treated poorly. Is that still the case? Can I just dress up and have a good time or am I gonna be questioned at length about my commitment to the character.
I’ve literally started looking into furries because I just want to dress up and dance around like a demon elf in public without any trouble.

question: is it better to use a super strong hair spray or maybye a weaker hairspray? please tell me cus this year I'm going on my 1st convention ever and I haven't ever worked with a normal wig instead made a paper wig or just didn't use a wig for my cosplays
My freind is a maleup artist, been doing it since the 80s. She gets the white elmers glue sticks that dry clear for eyebrows and edges. Been around for years and its still the best!
Don't forget to raise your closet because the closet you can actually find stuff to use for cosplays I did it with the very first cosplay I did at 16 which was Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
I use fabric glue-specifically tacky glue- with acrylic paint and a touch of water as fabric paint! (3:2:1 ratio) It’s a bit stiffer, but very durable and useful in a pinch 🙂
Use painted split peas or dried lentils instead of googly eyes for rivets. You get millions per bag, they're cheap, and you can get them in any market.
If my fashion teacher knew that people use to wrap themselves in plastic to make patterns she would faint. Honestly I like tha liberty to draw the pattern directly on paper just knowing your measurements. It's how I learned so obviously it's what I'm more used to.
In class we learned to make the pattern from zero, then create the clothing piece using rough cotton fabric, see if there are any mistake on measurements and if there are then adjust the pattern based on it. It's a bit more time consuming but I like it.

I think paper fasteners also work well as fake rivets/screws

When I was a kid I used to do closet cosplays ( cosplayong characters in your regular clothes)

If you don't have a sewing machine or are not able to work one, a glue gun works just fine for most cosplay.
